Pre-School

We are trained and qualified to support your child’s education all the way through to joining school. All children’s development at the nursery is underpinned by the Early Years Foundation Stage which is the framework that your child will be assessed under in their first year at school. At our nurseries, we do this by carefully weaving development into your child’s play each and every day. Our approach to learning ensures that your preschool children are ready when the time comes to transition to school.

From the age of 3 children will follow the pre-school phase, the early years programme which is currently used in schools, is widely accepted as the best method of learning for children between the ages of 3 and 7, we plan and set out activities which provide quality play opportunities for learning in the 7 area's - personal social and emotional, communication and language, physical development, mathematics, literacy, understanding of the world and expressive art and design, these area's are considered to be the essential foundation for children's education.

All children are encouraged to behave well and show consideration for others, they learn to follow instructions and to keep a routine, while still developing their independence, our mission is to ensure every child is happy and well cared for, we want them to start school confident and independent.

How we help prepare for school

The early years foundation stages (EYFS) was introduced in England in September 2008 and replaces the birth to three matters framework and foundation stage cirricilum. it is the framework that guides the care and education for children from the ages of 0 to the end of their 5th birthday, the nursery has a legal requirement to pass on information to your chosen school about your child's developement within the seven areas of learning set out in the EYFS. we do this through observations recorded in each child's learning journey and through our discussions with you. our team will begin to prepare your child for school by raising their expectations.

For example;

* Asking and encouraging children to focus for longer periods of time; this will carry according to each child's personality as some may manage a few minutes, and others may manage longer, the length of time does not matter, what is important is that they begin to realise there is an expectation to do this.

* Listening to each other in small group times - we help them to do this in various ways, sometimes passing a familiar object from person to person with an understanding you only talk when holding the object.

* Looking after their own belongings, hanging coats, putting on their own shoes, socks, learning to tie shoelaces etc

* Managing their own personal care - using the toilet, washing and drying their hands.

* Managing mealtimes appropriately, for example, pouring themselves a drink, setting the table, serving themselves from the main dish.

* Caring for the environment - helping to tidy resources, replacing toys in the right places, finding and choosing the resources they want.
